New Workshop "White Anemones"

Hi everyone, I hope all of you are off to a great start for another fresh week. I am excited to say, I finally completed a piece which I am including in my suite of craft courses. I'm really happy to be able to add this new "White Anemones" to the list of flowers that I will be teaching. :)

I will still require students to take a pre-requisite before they can learn this, because the truth is, anemones are harder to make compared to the daisies. They require more steps, more sculpting and definitely more patience. I believe one should be able to complete this in one lesson, but as always, there may be instances where one can't complete and have to come back for another lesson. And if that's the case, I'll update the sessions required accordingly after I've gotten a few students taking this class to do a gauge.

Happy mid week everyone!

Dollhouse Miniature Potting Bench

Hi everyone, I hope everyone had a great weekend. I relaxed, and also packed orders. First, I have for the longest time been wondering why I am lacking a reply button in my comments section. It made replying comments difficult. I finally got down to investigate and realized I needed to set my comments to "embedded' before the reply button would appear. There you go! I'm always learning something. :)

Earlier last week, I was working on a potting bench. This piece is inspired by my vision of a french flea market, where old pieces of furnitures are salvaged, refurbished and given a new lease of life. They are then used to display an array of carefully selected eclectic ornaments and knick knacks, curated by the shop keeper. I love such themes dearly.

Here, I just displayed it with a few of my favorite pieces at the moment.

But if you could just see beyond it as a potting bench. it can be used as a dessert table as well. So there is no limitations of using this - which is the beauty of such versatile pieces.

It will be going to its new home! I may be making another piece. This time, how about mint green? It seems to be a favorite color among many people.

I'll show you when it's done! Meanwhile, have a beautiful week everyone!

Old piece new feature

One of the fun moments is when you open your cabinet and saw an old piece of work and thought it would be a great fit for a photo opportunity with some new stuff you've been working on. I've been painting on some milk and sugar jars lately. One set in pale pink. And when I saw my old shabby shelf, I knew it fitted in there. So I had to take a photo before mailing some items out to my customer :)

I love that the condition of all the other miniatures, despite it being in my cupboard for many years. Almost forgotten I had this.

The pale pink sugar and milk jars fit here nicely. :)

I have also been working on a potting bench. I hope to take some photos tomorrow.

Have a great week everyone!

Dollhouse Miniature Green Fern Plant

It has been a while since I last made a dollhouse miniature green fern plant.

While visiting this, I had a new discovery of why I enjoy making these so much. It occurs to me that every green fern plant has its own characteristics. No matter how many times I make it, each one is different. The crazy ferns reminded me of "hairstyles". How each hairstyle is different and gives character...that concept pretty much applies to the green fern plant. It amazes me sometimes, that how I can draw concepts in real life and somehow link it up with what I do.  It makes me giggle as I think of the ferns as hairstyle.

Yesterday I had a little mishap. As I was just a few minutes out from home, one of my shoe broke. Thank goodness I have not walked very far from home! So I walked home, changed into my comfortable pair of walking shoes and brought another pair of working shoes to change into when I reach my destination. At that very moment, I thought of the scenario of what I would have to do if my shoe broke in the middle of no where and it's hard to get home or to my destination, plus there's no shoe shop nearby. What would I do? What would you do? Please share with me in your comments! I would love to hear. For those of you who have experienced that before, I have deep empathy for you...it must have been a very tough situation.

It also occurs to me, as I see this miniature plant sitting on my desk, how these little tiny fake green ferns really lits up my desk. Especially for someone who stares at the computer working all day, green is something soothing to our eyes. And perhaps, you work in an environment where it isn't possible to have a plant or a vase of flowers nearby - I can think of laboratories! These tiny ones would be great to have around so that your eyes can relax when it's tired from staring at the screen. Best of all, it doesn't require watering!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Dollhouse Miniature Pink Anemone Flowers

Hi everyone! Finally back, and typing from my new MacBook Pro.
I have to say, that transitioning is slowly taking place. There is a bit of an adjustment period which I am just taking it day by day. I used to work on apple computers back in school, but it's still very different from what it used to be.

I'm so glad I can finally convert and edit my photos properly on this computer. :)

Bringing you these pink anemone flowers in 1:12 scale. They have been adopted :) I love the color of the planter. I forgotten how pretty porcelain doll was...

It brought me an idea for a new workshop...so I will work on that.

I still have a bunch of other photos that I want to convert and edit properly before blogging them, so I shall work on them :)

Wishing all a beautiful day!

Free Online Programs I Use For Photos

For the past week, I have been working from my mom's old laptop. As mentioned in my last post, I didn't want to install too many programs on this old laptop.

So during the past week, I've been editing photos using free online programs I can find on the internet. I think they are a gem, and definitely a useful resource for those who don't have the means to purchase licenses to use Photoshop. If you're looking for free online resources, that are EASY to use, you certainly should consider the below:

Converting CR2 to JPEG Files
Anyone who has a Canon camera would probably need a program to convert their files to JPEG. Ordinarily I would use the software that comes with my camera to do the work, but for now, I'm using RAW Pics.io This FREE software is so easy to use. They also convert to many other formats as well. I tried using their RAW format conversion, but I didn't like how the pics turn out. I don't know why they have a grey overcast over my photos. I asked for a refund and got mine back without questions asked. I am using the jpeg converter that comes free during this time. Good enough for now.

Online Photoshop Free
I was also using this to edit my photos after that. Absolutely free and the layout is exactly the same as Photoshop, so this worked perfectly for me. I wouldn't know what to do without a program like this.

I hope this helps!

The Blue Screen Of Death

Sorry for my lack of updates! I had meant to blog earlier, but then my laptop decided to retire for good. So you can imagine that bit of chaos going here. My old laptop has been working well for me for the past 5 years. I am thankful. It helps that my brother made some minor upgrades to it over the years and therefore it could stretch its lifespan to 5 years. When it comes to IT equipment, it's unlikely we can use the same one for over 10 years...so I was mentally prepared that mine will retire any day. I am glad I have the habit of saving my photos and work on 2 external hard drives, so if anything happens, I won't suffer a panic attack from trying to recover my work. But of course, I will miss my old laptop. I'm waiting for my brother to order a new one for me...I'm changing to Macbook!! It will be a huge change for me. We will see.

At the meanwhile, I'm working from my mom's old laptop.

There are still some inconveniences while waiting for the new one to arrive. Because my mom's laptop is old, I didn't want to install it with too much programs. So I learning how to work even without having programs installed here.

This precious photo. How I had to transfer the photos over, and then convert the files to jpeg. Then, I had to find a free program online (without downloading or installing) to resize and edit a little. But I'm glad I worked it out!! I'm soooo proud of myself. :)

Another photo of the daisies. They will be going to its new home. :)

I was going to take more photos today, but every time I wanted to, the clouds darkened and it was just impossible. Today is not a day for photography.

Wishing all a happy friday! :)
